I Am Legend

For our annual school Christmas activity we went to see I Am Legend. All I could say was bravo, this movie was great. The first thing that I would like to talk about with this movie is the shots and angles that were moved. In the beginning of the movie it has a long shot of New York Cities skyline. This is to show all of the change that happened over the three years of everyone being dead. Then all of the sudden you see a mustang driving down the streets and the camera then begins to follow it. Then the shots start to get closer and closer until you see Will Smith driving the car. These kinds of shots really get you involved into the movie. There are also a lot of low angle shots that gives you the sense of being lost and alone in this big city. I also love the fact that they used cultural events and placed it into the movie. As you may know one of the biggest things today is cancer and coming up with a cure. In the movie it tells a story of how a lady found the cure for cancer and then everything went horribly wrong. It used the worst case scenario and made a movie out of it. I believe that this method was a great choice for making one of the best movies of the decade.

Nine in the Afternoon

When I’m just sitting around I love to listen to music. It could be on the radio or on MTV music videos. The other night I saw this video from Panic at the Disco, “Nine in the afternoon”. This is by far one of the coolest video’s I think I have ever seen. I love how they used different shots and the settings they used. It is almost like watching a dream on TV. This method is really helpful if someone is trying to catch someone’s attention. I see a lot more video’s like this, the reason I believe is that we love pop culture and this video really does show that.

Cribs

Our culture is full of people that want everything and want to be better than everyone else. There is a show that is on MTV and has been on the air for a really long time, Cribs. Cribs is a show where they go to celebrities homes and they show off everything that they have. The reason that I think that this show does so well is just because we pretty much live off of everyone else’s riches. We want to be just like the people that we idol. Once again this just goes to show that we are the reason for what is put onto TV.

Super Sweet Sixteen

I like to watch MTV any time that I can, which is not very often. One show that I used to watch was my super sweet sixteen. This was by far the dumbest show that I have ever seen. The only reason that I liked to watch it was because I thought that it was hilarious. The girls on this show were so stupid, they would cry if they did not get a new car. The only reason that this show really went anywhere was because our girl culture wanted the sweet sixteen to be like that. Everyone thinks that when they turn sixteen they should get a new car and the biggest party ever. I’m so glad that this show is no longer on the air. The methods that were used were horrible; I just can’t believe that this show went as long as it did. This just shows you how much influence we have as a culture on the things that are put onto TV.

America's Best Dance Crew

Between being a waiter and a wonderful boyfriend (HAHA) I really don’t have much time to watch much TV. But just the other day I was watching MTV and a show called Americas Best Dance Crew was on. Holy Crap I could not believe how good these groups were. Just think about this, if this show aired back in the 70’s or 80’s do you think that it would do so well. Personally I don’t think that it would do well at all. Today in our culture I think that we thrive off of this kind of entertainment. I’m not quite sure why but the closest thing that I could come up with is that we love pop culture and live off of it. It just like that series that we watched, we watch what we are.

Horton Hears a Who

Not to long ago I got the opportunity to watch the new movie Horton Hears a Who. Horton Hears a Who is a children’s book written by Dr. Seuss that was make into a movie. This seems to be a pretty popular trend lately with a lot of books. This method I think really does well because when you take a popular book and make it into a movie people will want to see it just because of how well the book did. I loved Horton Hears a Who; this film was just not meant for kids but also adults. One character that I thought really made the movie was Katie; a little yellow fur ball that was in Horton’s class. Katie is not a main character in the movie but has to be the funniest one. Above is a clip of Katie just to show how funny she really is. Over all I believe that this movie was a huge hit.

I have recently watched Mr. Woodcock that is meant to be a comedy, and it sure met that. In the begining of the movie it shows the star of the movie when he was a kid. This is where everything is set up for the rest of the movie. Everything that happens when he was a kid, causes him to become what he is today. I found this to be interesting because they used this type of method to make the movie funnier. I like this kind of method personally because it shows how things in your childhood will effect you in the future. The movie seemed to be all shot from a close to wide range angle and used little lighting to make it more realistic.
