I Am Legend

For our annual school Christmas activity we went to see I Am Legend. All I could say was bravo, this movie was great. The first thing that I would like to talk about with this movie is the shots and angles that were moved. In the beginning of the movie it has a long shot of New York Cities skyline. This is to show all of the change that happened over the three years of everyone being dead. Then all of the sudden you see a mustang driving down the streets and the camera then begins to follow it. Then the shots start to get closer and closer until you see Will Smith driving the car. These kinds of shots really get you involved into the movie. There are also a lot of low angle shots that gives you the sense of being lost and alone in this big city. I also love the fact that they used cultural events and placed it into the movie. As you may know one of the biggest things today is cancer and coming up with a cure. In the movie it tells a story of how a lady found the cure for cancer and then everything went horribly wrong. It used the worst case scenario and made a movie out of it. I believe that this method was a great choice for making one of the best movies of the decade.

Nine in the Afternoon

When I’m just sitting around I love to listen to music. It could be on the radio or on MTV music videos. The other night I saw this video from Panic at the Disco, “Nine in the afternoon”. This is by far one of the coolest video’s I think I have ever seen. I love how they used different shots and the settings they used. It is almost like watching a dream on TV. This method is really helpful if someone is trying to catch someone’s attention. I see a lot more video’s like this, the reason I believe is that we love pop culture and this video really does show that.

Cribs

Our culture is full of people that want everything and want to be better than everyone else. There is a show that is on MTV and has been on the air for a really long time, Cribs. Cribs is a show where they go to celebrities homes and they show off everything that they have. The reason that I think that this show does so well is just because we pretty much live off of everyone else’s riches. We want to be just like the people that we idol. Once again this just goes to show that we are the reason for what is put onto TV.

Super Sweet Sixteen

I like to watch MTV any time that I can, which is not very often. One show that I used to watch was my super sweet sixteen. This was by far the dumbest show that I have ever seen. The only reason that I liked to watch it was because I thought that it was hilarious. The girls on this show were so stupid, they would cry if they did not get a new car. The only reason that this show really went anywhere was because our girl culture wanted the sweet sixteen to be like that. Everyone thinks that when they turn sixteen they should get a new car and the biggest party ever. I’m so glad that this show is no longer on the air. The methods that were used were horrible; I just can’t believe that this show went as long as it did. This just shows you how much influence we have as a culture on the things that are put onto TV.

America's Best Dance Crew

Between being a waiter and a wonderful boyfriend (HAHA) I really don’t have much time to watch much TV. But just the other day I was watching MTV and a show called Americas Best Dance Crew was on. Holy Crap I could not believe how good these groups were. Just think about this, if this show aired back in the 70’s or 80’s do you think that it would do so well. Personally I don’t think that it would do well at all. Today in our culture I think that we thrive off of this kind of entertainment. I’m not quite sure why but the closest thing that I could come up with is that we love pop culture and live off of it. It just like that series that we watched, we watch what we are.

Horton Hears a Who

Not to long ago I got the opportunity to watch the new movie Horton Hears a Who. Horton Hears a Who is a children’s book written by Dr. Seuss that was make into a movie. This seems to be a pretty popular trend lately with a lot of books. This method I think really does well because when you take a popular book and make it into a movie people will want to see it just because of how well the book did. I loved Horton Hears a Who; this film was just not meant for kids but also adults. One character that I thought really made the movie was Katie; a little yellow fur ball that was in Horton’s class. Katie is not a main character in the movie but has to be the funniest one. Above is a clip of Katie just to show how funny she really is. Over all I believe that this movie was a huge hit.

I have recently watched Mr. Woodcock that is meant to be a comedy, and it sure met that. In the begining of the movie it shows the star of the movie when he was a kid. This is where everything is set up for the rest of the movie. Everything that happens when he was a kid, causes him to become what he is today. I found this to be interesting because they used this type of method to make the movie funnier. I like this kind of method personally because it shows how things in your childhood will effect you in the future. The movie seemed to be all shot from a close to wide range angle and used little lighting to make it more realistic.

"Infisherman/Mythbusters"

For this blog I wanted to do a comparision between shows and show how they are different (concept #2). Infisherman is a informational program usually on saturday mornings to show how different fishing methods will help you catch more fish. Mythbusters is also an informational program that tries to prove different myths to see if they are true or not. One thing that really stands out about these shows are the quality of the picture. Infisherman is a much poor quality compared to Mythbusters. This could be because of money and different equipment. They both are shot on the spot meaning not to much light is needed and it's in a naturalsetting. The sounds are much different, Mythbuster sounds are much more professional and more time was spent on editing. Infisherman is just steady shot with no music and times where nothing is said for a longer period making it alot more boring. Clothing for both are just normal everday clothing so you can realate to them. The nice thing about mythbuster is that they change settings alot so you are not bored. Infisherman is always on the boat pretty much in one spot, so you get bored easy. The camera for Infisherman is always in one spot and really never moves. Mythbuster the camera moves and follows people so your mind stays awake.

Family Guy "Louis becomes fat"

Every night before I go to bed I always watch an episode of Family Guy. The other night was an episode where louis (wife/mom) gets fat because peter doesn't want to have sex because he doesn't feel like a man anymore. The thing that I like about family guy is that they take things that really happen and make it funny. Like the episode that I am talking about here. There are alot of couples that deal with this where something happens and feelings start to change. So then to make them feelings come back someone has to change their self to make it better. They have to become someone that they are not. In the episode Peter wants Louis to become fatter so he feels good about himself. So pretty much he is forcing her to become someone shes not but she does it anyways because she loves him. For me I like this kind of message; first off it's a comedy so it's going to hold my attention, and second when you see that happen then you realize the things you are doing and how it may affect people.

Budlight Commercial

1. (Visual) The lighting in this commercial was a bit on the dull side. This was to really make you feel like it was a locker room. In the beginning of the commercial that camera angle started in close and moved out to a medium shot. Through out the commercial they edited the shots together to make it look like there were a bunch of mistakes and they were shooting a new one. The main character of the commercial was Jackie Moon “Will Farrell” the star player from Semi Pro. He is dressed like a basketball player and has on leg on a bench while he is standing there holding a Bud Light. He is acting cool and casual to tell you if you drink Bud Light then you are cool to. The setting does not change at all. The whole time it is shot in a locker room with lockers and a play board in the background to show that the movie is about basketball.

2. (Sounds) The only people that you hear is Jackie Moon and the director in the background. The music is very seductive to give a sexy kind of mood. The music is the same though out the whole commercial. The purpose is to be sexy and make you feel sexy when you drink Bud Light but at the same time be funny. The audience would be about 21 to 40 I would think.

3. (Apply Key Questions) Everything that I said above really sets the commercial over the top. Bud Light is a popular beer and the use a very funny well known actor to star in it. The thing that I really found interesting is that they advertised for two different things here all in one commercial, Bud Light and Semi Pro. This was a very interesting technique that they used, it really made the commercial interesting and funny. I really do not believe that this commercial would go over well with the older people just because they may find this to be inappropriate.

John Tucker Must Die is a movie that was made back in 2006 and is a comedy/romantic film. This movie is loaded with great scenes and alot of lessons. John Tucker who is the main character is the team captain for the basketball team, and the most popular guy in school. Then you have the head cheerleader, the smart one, the mysterious one, and the unnoticed one. I like how they used all of these clicks and showed how they are effected in their own ways by the popular people. This John Tucker guy is dating the first three girls that I said and they all found out and now they want to get back at them. So their plan is to take the unnoticed girl and get John Tucker to like her so she can break his heart and see how it feels. It's just like "The Merchants of Cool" the world looks at us and see's all of this drama that kids go threw and make it into a movie. We like to see the struggles that we all go threw.

That 70's show is one of my all time favorite's for alot of different reasons. The first reason is that I love how it can relate to our lives. I don't know what it is about that; maybe we just like to see how we are sometimes. The setting of it really relates also because alot of us have place's that we like to hang out just like Erics house in the show. Also this is a story about a high school couple that have alot of problems. Being from Port Edwards we see this kind of thing alot. Also the have all of your clicks in there. The thing that I like about this is that the all hang out together. It's not like The Hills where only the rich cool kids get to hang out. The only negative message that I get out of the show would be when the smoke pot in their little circle. Overall I love how this show relates to our everyday life so we can see what we are like.

This song for me has more to do with the emotional side of things. The reason I picked this song is because this is Katie and my song that we have for each other. The lyrics to the song is the reason that we choose it. This is the chorus that I personally like.

"The smile on your face lets me know that you need me There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever i fall You say it best when you say nothing at all"

For Katie and I we wanted a song that explained how we feel towards each other. I'm sure that this isn't just the case for us but for others also. Typically I do not like music like this but when there is a reason behind it, it changes everything. The one thing about this song that I like is that she is speaking from her heart, and the reason that people listen to it is because they are feeling the same thing and they like to know that there is someone else out there like them.

Positice Negative Pictures

This is the image that I have picked for my positve image. This image I really wanted to show the more of the macho, sexy side. The first thing that I wanted to talk about is the camera angle. It's farther away and angles slightly up. The reason for the farther away shot is to show that he wants you to see all of him. He is not afraid of what he looks like. The reason for the angle up shot is to give him a bigger look, that is where the macho part comes into play. The next thing is the lighting. As you can see the background has alot of color and gives the photo a warm feeling. The lighting is also brighter in the face to give it that warm feeling also. The last thing is the clothes. As you can see the clothing is very nice and there is also a fishing pole. The fishing pole is to show that he is proud of what he does.

Positive Negative Pictures

This image I am using for my negative shot. The first thing that I want to talk about is the camera angle. As you can see the image is from the top and at the side. This is to show that you are looking down on him and the side angle is supose to show that he is trying to hide from the world. The next thing is the lighting. As you can also see with this is the lighting is very dim and the eyes have alot of shadow in them. This gives the effect that he is sad about something. The last and the final thing is the clothing. It is more on the slum side just to show that he doesn't care about his apperance.

Boys like Girls "Five Minutes to Midnight"

I listen to music all of the time. I would rather listen to music than watch t.v. because I feel that music is what influences me the most. One song that I love is Five Minutes to Midnight. This song is all about change and a new start. For me I feel that we all need a new start sometimes and this song really makes you think of everything that you would like to change in your life. I love Boys like girls because they talk about all of the struggles in your life but at the same time helps you get threw them. They talk about the negative side but then the positive outcome.

"Turn it upIt's five minutes to midnight
You're coming home with me tonight
I can't get enough
Shakin' me up
Turn it up
Alright, at five minutes to midnight
You see our name in city lights
We'll make the clock stop
Make your heart drop and come alive"

This is just a little bit of what they talk about in their music.

Family Guy "reality show"

Nothing is better than a good laugh before you go to bed. The other night while I was in Madison I was watching t.v. and noticed Family Guy was on. I love Family guy because they use hummor to get a point out. This episode down below shows how struggles inside a family happen and how other people get pleasure from watching this. Much like today's society we like to watch reality t.v. and we like to see the struggles that one family may go threw. One part of the episode I would like to point out is the part where Meg, "the daughter", feels that her family doesn't care about her feelings. So she takes them onto this show to try and help but that only makes the problem worse. Instead of listening to what Meg has to say they ignore her and start this reality show. Fame and fortune comes between the family. This episode shows a very important life lesson. Can't Find the Video Clip

Jimmy Buffett is the all time greatest artist in all of the world. And there is nothing better to listen to while your all alone on a tropical island. Jimmy Buffets Greatest Hits is loaded with songs that relate to the tropics and make you really look at the positive sides of being on an island all by your self. One song that is my all time favorite would be Margaritaville. It's just one of them songs you can shut your eyes to and relax in the nice tropical sunlight.

Chris Brown Exclusive is the next choice in the Tropical Island music selection. This CD is packed with music to really get you pumped up if you need that extra boost in the morning.
